I just bought a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo from a friend. Unfortunately, it was sitting in his driveway for a month, not being driven, while I sold my old car. So, the brakes have rust on the rotors. When I brake, I can feel it in the steering wheel, and it feels like the back ones are worse. I had a mechanic drive it yesterday. He said that the rust might wear off if I drive it for a few days. But he also said it might not. He glanced at the brakes and felt the brake pads and said that I probably needed to get all four brakes replaced (rotors and pads). I am wondering if there is a way to just clean off the rust from the rotors and not actually replace them (assuming the rotors are not warped). Then, I would obviously replace the pads.
In addition, since I just bought this car, I am wondering what kind of price range I am looking at for replacing all 4 brakes (pads and rotors) (at an independant mechanic, not a dealer)
I'd appreciate any tips you all can offer.
Thanks!!!
