High Pitch Whine V70-XC70 2002

The last couple of days I've been getting quite a pronounced high pitched whine, coming from either the engine compartment or under the car near the front, especically noticeable when the engine is at idle speed. The noise may persist for 10 - 15 min. before the engine is fully warmed up, but eventually goes away.

The car is coming off warranty in Dec/05, I'm therefore a little concerned about the turbo. I'm new to turbos, so if anyone in this forum has any experience(s) with failing turbos or other things that produce high pitched noises, please enlighten me and reply here. Many thanks. Morty.
