A word of advice to those Volvo owners whose vehicles are approaching the end of their warrenties. Make sure you examine as many of the plastic wire looms that sheath the wire harnesses under the hood as you can. Changing the spark plugs at 30k, I noticed that the looms covering the spark plug wires were crumbling to dust (you need to remove a few torx screws to get the black cover off). The dealer replaced these for me at no cost.
Now at near 60k miles, I'm seeing a number of other looms crumbling away on their own. In particular, right on top of the power steering pump, there's a plug assembly that goes to the thermostat temperature sensor. Follow the wire down under the radiator hose and give the loom a slight squeeze. If it disintegrates, join the club.
