wiring harness S70 1999

I've just been told I have a defective computer wiring harness and that it has become very brittle due to the heat of the engine. I believe this was a problem in the late '70 and early '80 for the 700 series but have not heard of this being a problem since about '84. I took the car in for a rear seal replacement running great but it won't run at all now and I'm told the wiring harness for the computer has broken due to being brittle (engine heat). I am very suspicious and feel the garage caused this by failing to disconnect the harness when dropping the transmission.

Anyone have any thoughts or imput?
