Oh, the wonderful PNP switch 850 1996

I was having the usual problems with the PNP switch, the car is at 100k, and so I changed it. The blinking arrow went away, and the car runs perfectly fine now (no slow starts in third gear). However, the check engine light won't turn off. It's actually quite interesting, because when I turn the car on, the light is off, but after 5 seconds or so, on it comes. I took it to my indie mechanic in MD over Thanksgiving break and had him run the code for me and it came back P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction (PRNDL Input). I've looked over the posts concerning this code, and none seem to answer how to get rid of it. I know for a fact that the switch is aligned correctly (used an alignment tool, and the reverse lights work fine) and I bought the Volvo OE switch from Eeuroparts.com. So what could this be? I ran the car back up to school after break (800 miles) and it ran like a champ (as usual). I would like to avoid the dealer... any thoughts? Thanks!
