replacing radiator before 120k miles? 850 2003

Hi, I am a new member and this is my first post.

I have a 96 850 turbo with about 115k miles. On routine maintenance my mechanic thinks there may be a small leak in the radiator hose so he tighted the clamps a little more. He said 850 radiators usually breaks around 120k miles and recommends that I replace the whole thing before it fails, even though the radiator doesn't show any problems at the moment. I think he said something like $600 or more because its a turbo (and have to do with the intercooler getting in the way or something like that).

Has anyone heard of such a recommendation? Has anyone have a failed radiator?
Can he just replace the hoses?

thanks.
