96 Turbo P0326 Insanity 850 1996

96 850 Turbo 97K. Please help. Been wresting with this for months.

Knock sensor circuit error. At first, it seemed to be sensing a knock and retarding the timing. More recently, the car runs like a top in spite of the CEL and code. From some research on the P0326 code, I am thinking that there is a short somewhere or the sensor has gone bad (rare for this to happen I have heard). The code will sometimes stay set constantly and other times will go days or miles without setting after clearing. I've owned the car two years and never used anything but 93 octane.

Without being more certain, I'd rather avoid removing the intake manifold to get at the sensors (I perceive that to be pushing my DIY limits). But my Haynes manual doesn't give me any help understanding the circuitry.

Anybody had knock sensor problems? Know how to check the circuitry without pulling the manifold? Know of any site with troubleshooting tips?

Thanks in advance,

Calvin
