choosing between a used s40/s60/s80

Hi, I am in the market for a used volvo. I owned wonderful 89 740 that gave me 200k+ miles. I hope someone has some insight on what car gets more "bang for the buck." I have budgetted about 17k for a volvo. I can get a newer S40 with less miles for that price or I can get an 2001 s60 / s 80 with a few more miles but more power. Can anyone make any recommendations? Thank you all
