oil leak 850

My car is leaking oil on the top of the engine. I have read a previous post regarding the oil cap gasket and will replace that. If it turns out to be the valve / rocker arm cover Chilton's manuel says I will need Volvo tool 5454 to reinstall the cover. Does anyone know if that is necessary?
