Hello All,
I have a 1006 850 GLT Wagon. It has a 142K on it. About 10,000 miles ago, I started to hear a "squeak" from the driver's seat, when ever it shifted forward or backward. My local Volvo mechanic, oiled the tracks that the driver's seat moves back and forth on. For a week or two the squeak was gone. Ultimately, my mechanic said I had to replace the seat tracks - very expensive. These tracks are Volvo OEM parts only - each rack is about $150 each. The squeaking was driving me crazy, so I bit the bullet and had the racks replaced. For several weeks, not squeak. Not the squeak is back as loud as ever, like it never left.
I must add, about a month and half before the squeaking noise developed, my car was T-boned on the driver's side. There was damage to the driver's door and the driver's side passenger door. The driver's door could not be opened at the time of the crash. The passenger door had to be replaced.
I asked my independant Volvo mechanic if the old tracks looked like they had been stressed by the T-bone collision and that was the cause of the squeaking. He said "no" there was no sign of stress.
I'm not mad or disappointed with my mechanic. He is honest and competent. I will be bringing the car in again for service. Has anyone else experienced this squeaking noise from the driver's seat? If so, what did you do to get rid of it, short of selling the car? Thanks for your replies.
Hugh
