I bought a 1998 S70 about 2 months ago and so far there has been A LOT of work done to it. Thankfully I purchased a Volvo warranty (good for 12K mi). I had it checked out by a mechanic but more and more keeps going wrong. I love the car, but I'm really tempted to just sell it and get a new Volvo or Saab (last resort).
Here's a short list of what HAS been fixed so far:
two new rear shocks, new rack & pinion, loud steering knock, drivers seat belt replaced, purge valve, noisy driver door hinge, loose rear view mirror, winshield cracked at dealer (i ended up paying they denied responsibility)
I took the car to a different Volvo dealer today to get some more stuff fixed and here's what they told me needs to be done today:
strut, bushings, boot cover, drivers seatbelt unit needs to be replaced again (it randomly ejects), other issued with suspension, ECC failure, knocking in steering wheel has came back, noisy steering is back, loose drivers seat, they are also looking into a noisy exhaust and slow acceleration.
He gave me a rough estimate of $2,000 which has to be approved by the volvo warranty people tomorrow before they start work. I'm really ready to give up. Maybe I should have bought a 740 or 940 wagon eh?
