What sits just below the alternator? 850

I'm having a problem with something, and I'm not quite sure what it is. It has a belt connected to it and it sits just below the alternator. The belt is wrapped around it, but sometimes it clicks on, then off. The belt continues to spin around it, so I'm led to believe its not actually connected, because when it stops spinning, the belt continues to spin. Any ideas?
