When driving at highway speed, then either accelerating to pass or heading up an incline, our XC70 (1999) with just over 60K gives a very hard downshift clunk.
We purchased the car about a month ago and had to have the ABS control module replaced (glad we bought a warrantee) which fixed the common 60K problems of speedometer and odometer going to zero/ABS and brake lights coming on/transmission locking into "limp home" 3rd gear. This repair did nothing for the "clunk".
I had the (dirty) transmission fluid flushed...I'm getting a little better mileage and smoother shifts in the lower gears, but the downshift clunk is still there from overdrive.
Any ideas? Thanks.
