Extended Warranty? V70-XC70 2001

Hi!

My wife took a message yesterday about an extended warranty on my 2001 V70. She didn't remember the exact numbers (I think $2,300 to extend it to 100,000 miles), nor did she confirm if it was Volvo making the offer, or a third party.

What's the general consensus? Since most maintenance stuff is not covered, I'm not sure if it will be worthwhile. Any opinions? Also, should I only consider Volvo, or are third parties OK?
