I have a '96 855M that I just bought a couple weeks ago. I think I might have a problem with the clutch, but then again not. The clutch and flywheel feel new and smooth (when I let out the clutch slowly without throttle, there is no chatter on engagement)but when I am pulling away from a light, particularly when the car is cold, I hear a click (or sometimes a groan/twang like a cable making noise (I don't think there are any cables involved in the clutch linkage)) as the clutch is fully let out in 1st and 2nd gears. This tends to dissapear as the car gets warm. The sound comes from the pedal area. Also, in what is probably an unrelated problem, when releasing the clutch while stopped, if I do it in such a way as to let the engine bog I feel a clunk. If I engage the clutch properly I don't feel this at all (my guess is the mounts, but a visual inspection and shaking of the engine don't confirm this). Are the stock mounts for this car soft enough to give you this feeling even while they are still good?
I have read lots about clutch groans, but I don't think this is what I am experiencing. I hope someone can shed some light on this condition.
