FLOOR MATS?!

This is a general q. When ever i clean my mats i allways notice there's still dirt and what, not visible but its there embedded. Has any one tried putting their matts in a washing machine? I mean i see no reason why they couldn't go in there in a cold wash and light spin or something like that. Please let me know if any one has tried this.
