Unlocking car--key won't work, remote will. What kind of problem? 850 1997

Have been using the key to unlock the car the past few weeks instead of the remote. The last two days the car was in the garage. Came out to unlock it and the key wouldn't turn in the driver's side lock. It would turn in the passenger side lock, but the button wouldn't pop up. Went back and got the remote, which promptly unlocked everything. The car was out in -10C weather (Norway) for the past week or so and there was never a problem with the lock not turning on the driver's side in the parking lot after work. Today everything is normal (still -10C). Locks operate mechanically and with the remote like factory new. Is something slowly going to hell with the locking mechanism I should know about? I would like to think some moisture got into the locking mechanism on the driver's side when the key wouldn't turn, but why wouldn't the passenger side unlock when the key would turn? Puzzling. Any ideas really appreciated, no matter how far out. Dick

P.S. On an unrelated issue (I think), the driver's side window one day suddenly would only go halfway down. I could hear the motor laboring when it stopped. This persisted for about three months. I was always trying to roll it down to throw money into the toll booths on E-6 and it would stick and I would have to open the door. I took it to an autoshop, explained what was wrong, clicked the switch to show how far down it would go, and it went all the way down. Never a problem after that. Coincidence? "I don't think so!" Another puzzler as to what was jamming it. LIke the locks.
