Hi fellow Volvo owners,
I recently bought a 1999 V70R, it is a great car. The car has 67,000 miles on it. It has one small annoying "problem", have any of you experienced this also?
When started, the engine runs very smoothly, and very quietly. If allowed to sit and "warm up" for 5 or 10 minutes, one of the hydraulic valve lifters starts to tick loudly. In the owners manual, it states that a ticking sound is normal, and it could last for up to 15 minutes. Due to this statement in the owners manual, I am sure that if I take it in for a service call, they will tell me it is normal. I don't think it is normal, and want it corrected. I am thinking of switching to Mobile 1 synthetic oil at the next oil change
Any suggestions? Rich at Volvospeed/Bay13 says I should take off the oil pan to make sure that none of the "o" rings in the oil pick up tube have "sucked in on themselves". I want to do this as a last resort. I have removed the oil cap while the engine is running, and it looks like oil is getting up there, it splashed out on the valve cover.
Thanks,
bill_V70r
