Vacuum leak 850 1994

Engine runs rough.I noticed one round unit (about 1.5" dia)which is located under battery bracket has two s . One has two hoses connected to it, other has one hose and open end - no hose. With the engine running I dont feel vacuum on the open end. Should this end be closed or maybe
vacuum line is missing? Other, large round unit which is located under front fender, close to light assy. also has two s; one with two lines (end of one line is connected to intake manifold other line goes to the back of the car),second is open. When I close it with the tip of my finger I feel strong suction and engine iddles better. Haynes repair manual does not cover vacuum lines very well. Should open s stay open or maybe I have vacuum line missing there? This car is new to me and any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
