Sharp Braking means Slow Acceleration

I own a 1994 early model 850 Volvo without a turbo. Recently, when I brake sharply there often is a period of hesitation or slowness to accelerate after a sharp or sudden braking. I wonder if this is transmission related or some sort of computer effect... Any suggestions? How do I get a computer diagnostic report? etc. Thanks in advance to any responders.
