I'm looking at buying a very nice '98-ish XC from an elderly relative for a very good price.....the car has very low (under 40k miles) mileage on it and has been serviced by a local dealer since new.
I'm curious as to the cost of the bevel gear replacement and what causes its failure.....I've searched everywhere I can find on the web and cannot find any definitive info on this on volvospeed, swedespeed, xc70.com, etc. I tried searching here as well and didnt get as much info as I'd hoped.
Is this a weak-link in the drivetrain system or is it just a wear-item?
I'd like to have the ECU reflashed at some point and put an iPd exhaust on the car to give it a bit more spunk, so I'm curious as to how robust the drivetrain is.
Thanks, Ben
