air pump for 98 S70 S70 1998

All,

I am wondering if any of you might be able to provide a parts dealer for me? I have a 1998 Volvo S70 sedan and starting about 6 months ago, the check engine light came on. Although I hate to take my car to the dealership, I took it anyway and they said that the codes indicated the car needed a new air pump. All told, they wanted around $700 to do this work. Not conviced and thinking this amount was ridiculous, I took the car to a local small independent garage. He also said the car needed to get the air pump installed. However, he quoted me a price of about $400-450 incl. parts and labor. I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get a new air pump, what the cost would be, the contact details of the parts dealer, and any additional parts associated with the pump along with costs?

The check engine light has not come back on for about 3-4 months. How vital is the air pump to the car? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jonathan
