Hi!
So ok, as per recent post, worked out why my AC shutting down - the compressor isn't spinning after a while, and turning off.
There's a power supply up to the clutch, but the clutch disengages after a while (overheats I assume) and won't re-engage unless AC switched off and back on again 10 minutes later.
So I assume the clutch is failing.
The voltage to the clutch is only 11.2 volts. I've read this voltage needs to be no less than 1 volt below battery voltage, with engine running.
Now I'm sure I read somewhere from someone else with exactly the same problem (and 11.7 volts) that they took wire going to clutch to a relay, which was used to switch voltage direct from the battery - this was good enough to overcome weak windings in the clutch. The switching part obviously is the feed to the compressor when AC turned on.
BUT, I can't seem to identify which wire is the feed. I probed the wires after disconnecting the white plug on the side of the compressor, but couldnt get voltage from either side! Plugged back in though, and compressor started!!
Anyone know??
Thanks,
Kev
