850 wagon rumble when braking Aarghh!!

Well, when it rains.... This is the same 96 850 turbo wagon whose engine is dying intermittently. Now we have a new problem to explore. When you apply the brakes with moderate to heavy pressure, the whole car rumbles. Sounds as if it is coming from the rear portion of the vehicle. The ABS light came on about a week ago, but not with any symptoms. Now we have symptoms. I did the brakes about a year ago. Replaced all pads including the rears even though they (the rears) showed hardly any wear. I used the factory pads with the rubber backing. Any ideas? How about an ABS sensor? Any know problems with the ABS system on these models? Thank you for any suggestions.
