My wipers died yesterday in mid-sweep, stopping right in the middle of the windscreen. (Fortunately, it was only drizzling during my 20 mi commute, and I was able to get home safely.) They will not work in lo, hi or intermittent.
Should I assume the wiper motor has given up the ghost? I think the wiper relay is working -- I can hear the faint click when I flip the stalk arm on -- but I'll check it further with a jumper over the long weekend. When I stopped to push the wipers back down to their at-rest position, they moved VERY easily (no resistance), almost like they weren't connected to anything inside the cowl.
Assuming it is the wiper motor, how easy is this to replace? I have the Haynes manual and would rate my mechanical ability around a 2 on the IPD 3-point scale.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any other thoughts/opinions?
Thanks.
