'97 850 GLT Evaporator change 850

guys, please somebody help!!!
i am changing the evaporator in my
1997 850 GLT station wagon. took
me all day today to take the whole
dash board apart. the reason - my
present evaporator is leaking. now,
i got all the way to the housing
of the evaporator, but i cannot
pull the housing out because my
present evaporator is hooked up
to a couple of tubes in the engine
compartment. my problem is that i do
not know how to disconnect my old
evaporator itself from the system.
does anybody have an answer to that?
i also noticed that the evaporator
housing (a big plastic box) has a little
crack in it near one of the screws,
is it going to hurt the AC
system in anyway? also, when i do
recharge the ac, should i just use a
couple of 14 oz cans of 134a, or do
i need to put 1.6 lb in?

thank you guys so much

max
