remove antenna 850 1995

hello all

i'm about to do some bosy work for my volvo, and i was thinking of removing the old antena(since its not worling), and replace it with a microantena , the ones that stick to the rear-windsheild.

is it possible to seal the whole in the trunk of the previouse antenna( with metal and paint that is), and does those miceo-antenas work well ??
