help/ heater hose connections 1998 S70

how do the weird heater hose connections work near the fire wall on the 98 S70?
looks to be something you need a 200 dollar tool for so you have to pay the dealer just to change out heater hoses.kinda like the "sevice light" trick they've done.thanks zash
