850 cranks, but won't start

Our 96 850 n/a died on my wife today. I can't hear the fuel pump cycle on when the ignition is turned on. When you crank it, it fires and starts when cranking, but when released to the run postion, it dies immediately. Any suggestions. Is there a relay or fuse? How to confirm if it is the fuel pump. Could it be the ecu working in the cranking mode, but not in the run mode. Your input is greatly appreciated, it's the wife's car and it can't be fixed fast enough. 96' 855 n/a 210k miles.
