Suspension/tires 850 1996

Just how hard is the suspension on the 850 turbo's supposed to be? I have a '96 850 turbo wagon with Bridgestone Potenza RE750 250/50ZR16's - the two on the front brand new and the two on the back have approx 15K on them. I had to put the new ones on the front after a blow out on one tire and the tire rim on the other splitting. I had hoped to go to 250/55HR16's, but the blow out etc., meant I had to go with what I had. Recently (since putting the two new tires on) the ride seems to have gotten harder than ever - for instance going over a railroad crossing the other morning, caused my radar detector to jump off its mount and land in my lap - and I wasn't going more than 40 mph! The car has 63Kon it. Is it getting to the stage where shocks need changing, or is it just the nature of the beast? Note, I had a Saab 900 turbo with well over 100K on it which was jsut as quick, and mcuh nicer ride, and never had any problem with shocks. Are Volvo's susceptible to shock problems?
Once again I ask for the experts help!
