Automatic climate control 850 1993

Here are the differences I have noticed between the early-build 850s (8/92-4/93) and the later cars (5/93-3/97). How come the early '93s have different face designs and controls for the automatic climate control system, and the other cars have a totally different design?

Early '93 850s (8/92-4/93): Temperature dials have a range of 61 to 82 degrees; numbers are 61, 66, 72, 77, 82; the word "aut" is in lower case letters, as are the designations "rec" and "ac off"

Late '93 to '97 models (5/93-3/97): The dials now have a range of 60 to 84 degreees; numbers are 60, 66, 72, 82, 84; "AUT" is in legible capital letters, as is designation "REC;" AC switch now has "OFF" and "AUT" settings

Anybody know why Volvo chose to change the ACC face design in the 850 so late in the 1993 model year? I do know that they didn't change the 240's face design/controls at all during that car's long run.
