Suspension advice & moody rpm gauge 850 1993

I have a 93 850glt, up to now thankfully iīve had minimal problems with it. But from about a month till now my rpm gauge has gained a life of itīs own. Most of the time it works just fine, but once in a while it just plays dead with the engine running, and only when i rev the engine a little higher (I suspect about 4000 rpm) does it work. It goes strait to 4000~4500 rpm and as soon as i shift up it goes back to dead position. What could this be? Does anyone have a clue? How much would this cost me?

Iīm thinking of buying a new pair of springs to control the car from fumbling from side to side everytime i hit a turn, but i do not want to sacrifice ride height (half an inch i can live with), and am NOT interested in a unconfortable ride since the roads i drive on arenīt what they should be. Any advice?

Thabks for your help
