Power steering 850 1996

Hi, I own a '96 850 Turbo that I purchased new and have well maintained with all service interval working being done by an independent Volvo shop.
Recently my power steering has started to groan and whine sometimes when I turn the steering wheel to the left.
I haven't noticed any p/s fluid on the garage floor and it appears that the p/s level in the master cylinder is at the proper level.
Does anyone has any ideas or have experienced a similar problem, and if so, what did you do? Thanks, Fred.
