K&N Filters: Are They Worth the Money? 850

My local AutoZone has to special order them, or I can get them from IPD, but for $50 is it really worth it. It dosen't add horsepower I know that, so for the price it must outpreform OEM parts, right. I know most people have these, and my car needs one, but should I buy the cheaper stock part, or spring for the K&N. Has anyone noticed a great difference?
