Hi,
I own a 96 850 Turbo Wagon, but am doing some work on a friend's 98 V70 AWD XC.
One of the items I'm concerned about is the state of the bevel gear. The car has been run over 15,000 km with a major (4/32 ") difference in the tread depth between the front and rear tires. I'd like to inspect the lubricant in the bevel gear for signs of overheating.
Through ALLDATA, I obtained Volvo's TSB 44300040011on "Bevel Gear - Revised Replacement Oil". That TSB refers to three different procedures to be done, based on the part number and serial number of the bevel gear. However, and I'm a little embarrased about this, I can't seem to find the part number/serial number of the bevel gear. Does anyone know where this information is?
I'm also a little unsure about the fill plug. There seems to be only one very small plug, about 2/3 of the way up the housing, I'm going from memory, but it looks to be no larger than 12 mm or so. Is that the fill plug, or is there a larger fill plug hidden somewhere else?
