850 GLT Ignition Problems 850 1996

I have a 96 GLT which recently developed a loud clanking sound when the ignition is turned on. A mechanic indicated the flywheel was not being disengaged and may be related to an ignition switch problem. They recommended replacing the ignition switch at $400 for the part.
