98XC AWD Eng Fan after shut down/no heat -ANSWER from nov 30 post. ECT sensor? V70-XC70 1998

Ok, answer our Nov 30th post on why my 98XC wagon had the fan running continuously and would not warm up? No one Answered me so - A visit to the distant dealership and bingo, replace the faulty "ECT sensor" with the "thermostat" too and its fixed. The part was listed as FP# 9186486-8 : IAT Sensor.
I dont' understand the sensor acronym or where its at. I wasnt' around watching how it was done. BTW, the charges were just under $100 but I feel it should have been covered under one of our warranties as the brick has just over 50K and was a "certified car at purchase with extended warranty by dealer" :(
Again another low milage car with unreasonable problems:(
I'll be looking into how this sensor swap was done (part cost ~$48)as if I keep this $ drain I'll be doing it again soon and am trying to maintain myself if possible.
