oil leak-limp mode 850

Our 850(95-128k) went into limp home mode and set the arrow flashing. I expected to be told we needed a PNP but the shop has said that the tranny is reacting to components being soaked due to rear seal and transaxle leaks. Any body ever heard of such? (it coded 322 and 313) tia H
