98XC AWD Eng Fan on now After shut down? Never did this? V70-XC70 1998

Can anyone explain, why our 98 XC just recently started to have the engine cooling fan to turn on after shutdown. I'll be checking out a few things but this "never" occured before. Maybe because of winter conditions?, surely not overheating, doesnt' seem really hot. It has 50K. ***ESU**
