Q about ECC temperature sensor

I took the plunge and purchased a *new* ECC for my '93 850. Total = 600 bux. I installed it yesterday and when I turned the ignition to the II position I get blinking led lights above my "Rec" and "A/C" toggle switches. I checked the breakout box for error codes and received this one 1-2-2. The definition of this code is; "Outside temperature sensor open circuit or shorted to 12 volts". I pulled the sensor (I believe it to be a passive sensor) out of the air intake duct and checked the resistance with a voltage meter. The sensor seems to have *complete* resistance. I called the dealer and they want 120 bux for this very small sensor. My question, Is there any chance that this malfunction of the sensor could have caused the death of my old ECC? If so, is it ok to use the vechicle until I get the new sensor? The new ECC works fine other than the blinking lights at start-up. Also, Is my test case (measuring the resistance of the sensor) correct? If any one knows of a salvage yard that has a '93 850 let me know. :) I think I'll be needing more parts in the future and the yards in my area have older volvos.

Thanks for you help.
