This past weekend I finally removed the dashboard from my 1999 V70, hoping to find the source of at least some of the rattles that seem to be emanating from my dashboard whenever I go over a bump. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything when the dash was opened. I did put some foam weatherstripping on the supports for the glove box, but that wasn't one of the sources of rattling. After some frustrated searching, I finally gave up (for now) and closed the dash back up.
The particular rattle I am looking for (and there are several to be heard within the car) seems to be coming from the dashboard area in front of the driver. It sounds something like a piece of strap metal (like the kind used to bind some large wooden crates) slapping and vibrating against a flat surface. I know at least one other SV70/V70 owner posted a very similar-sounding description about two years ago on this board, but I never read of a resolution to the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look the next time I go hunting for this (and other) sources of rattles?
Thanks,
Alvin
