dump valve no whhhhoooooosh 850 1996

i've recently fitted a dump valve the bailey dv26 evo to be precise but i don't get the whoosh sound i've double checked everything and followed the instructions to the letter but no whoosh noise!!!

the boost guage is showing boost and i can hear the turbo spinning!!!

does the bypass valve in the turbo have to be disabled??? is this as easy as disconnecting the vacumn pipe that runs to it???

any ideas thanks
