You guys I am lost!!!
I just got back from the brake shop where they told me that my brakes look fine!!! I thought for sure that my brakes were the culprit of this mystery sound. It happens after the brakes warm up and it is like a light rotating grind. No feeling of vibration in the brake pedal. It is steering wheel sensitive, meaning that at some angles it is heard louder than others. It started out as a creak and over the past few weeks has gotten louder and rougher. It is not a click like the CV joint would cause and it is not constant like a worn wheel bearing. It comes and goes but recently has come and stayed.
I just changed my pads about 4 months ago with some Raybestos which used to squeak but have stopped since the weird crunchy creak appeared. I didn't machine the rotors. My rotors are thin but not warped. The brake guys said that maybe the rotors are so thin that the heat makes them make weird sounds like this. They are not worn out, just thin. Then why would it be steering wheel sensitive? Why do I hear it even while going straight without pressing the brake on occasion? And then I will tap the brake pedal and the sound disappears, and other times when I accelerate the sound stops also. It is hard to say what is causing this bizzarre and seemingly unpredictable behaviour. Sticky caliper?? Has ANYONE ever heard of such a thing? My friend said that my steering wheel stick needs to be greased up. But it clicks even while going straight sometimes. Any help would be soooooooo appreciated... Like I said before, I am lost and it is getting worse and worse.
Thanks a lot and sorry about the long message, I know that server HD space is limited.
Any more Q's you have to help pin this one down are welcome as well....
