I was driving along the interestate two weeks ago and the car failed. It turned out that the auxiliary timing belt faile, destroying the timing belt and leading to the complete destruction of the engine. I am now in the process of getting a replacement engine.
I was wondering is anyone else has knowledge of a similar failure. I have had all the service work done by a dealer (precisely to avoid these sorts of disasters)and I suspect that they missed something. One clue is that eight months (5000 miles/8100km) ago the dealer found a gouge in the auxiliary belt that ran the length of the belt about a third of the way in. They assured me that it almost certainly jumped a pully and they replaced the belt.
If anyone has any idea whether there is a specific problem that may explain, I'd love to hear it. At this point, I am ready to give up on the 850, which I have grown to love, but can no longer afford to maintain...
