Broken Flame Trap Hose 850 1996

I recently replaced the flame trap and O-ring, and I noticed that one of two hoses that lead to the flame trap is broken. This is the smaller rubber hose, not the larger plastic hose. I'm considering just applying hose tape on it. Is this advisable, or do I need to replace the whole part? Has this happened to anyone before? Please advise. Thanks.
