Drivers side windshield wiper faulty 850 1995

My first Volvo.....850 GLT Wagon and I love it. I was driving a 1987 Ford County Squire Wagon...movin up! Anyway, the driver side windshield wiper pulls away from the window approximatly .5 inch from the middle to the top of the wipe motion. I went out and bought brand new Volvo wipers....that did not work. I am not very couragous when it come to working on cars (much to the dismay of my bank account); however, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and is it a quick fix/adjustment that a novice can perform. Any suggestions are appreciated.
