Hi all,
have anybody heard about this? I got a big surprise
when I took my -98 V70GLT for Georgia emission testing
this morning. The computer of the test shop detected that
a "readiness flag" was not set by the OBDII of the car,
and the emission guy said that he cannot go ahead and
actually measure emissions from the tailpipe!! He
said there was a recent change in the procedure (at least
in Georgia) that his flag has to be read before the test
can be made, and this affects not only Volvos but
several late-model cars. I went directly to my Volvo
dealer and they knew about the issue. They gave me
a "to-do-list" to set the flag by myself after
performing a certain driving cycle. The dealer could do it
by charging basically two-hour labor!!! Well, I'm ready to
do it by myself but I'd really like to hear if anybody
already went through this in GA?
There is some discussion on this issue on
www.import-car.com, see towards the end
of the article "OBDII driveability &
emission problems".
After reading that article and Volvo dealer's instruction,
I am still not sure if swithching the engine off after the
driving cycle will again clear the readiness flag or is
the flag now set OK "forever" as the dealer said. Somebody
must already figured this out and I have to the
emission done and register the
car in a couple of weeks. Any input is appreciated.
thanks, Hannu
