Greetings!
I have a 94 850 turbo which was retyrned under "warranty" to a dealer in Thailand.
After stating trhe car had a cracked turbocharger, it was returned to me with performance restored but sounding like a 20 year old lorry. Looking for the cause I discover the Catalytic Convertor has been removed and the pipe either side cut. A section of steel pipe has been welded in it's place !
Obviously, the ECU is having problems with this and o2 sensor codes are being set, along with others, and the engine is not smooth, sounding too rich at high boost.
Now, tyhis is Thailand. It is almost impossible to get satisfaction here - law enforcement is nil - so here's the question.
It does make some sort of sense not to replace a plugged CAT here, as there is no pollution control at all - so CAN the CAT be removed ? Possibly being replaced by another box to silence the now deafening noise from the exhaust?
Replies welcome fast - I have an appointment with the local Volvo dealer in 2 days to see what the cost is to restore the car to original spec ...
Thanks
Keith
