update on my A/C and power drop-out problems... 850 1995

I changed out my fuel filter, boy was it a bear. The bracket retaining bolt was completely rusted. I saturated with this stuff called Brute Force (I've found this to be better than WD-40) then tried to loosen it. The backing nut broke off and it just started to spin. Had to hold the nut with a wrench while I loosened the bolt. Not fun.

Once it was on, I hopped in the car and went for a drive. Unfortunately I'm still experiencing the problem with power loss. I'll be driving along and suddenly the car will just lay down. Pushing the gas down does nothing. About a second later it will come back full force. This happens randomly. I can drive the car for 40 miles without experiencing it, then the next time I drive it might happen a lot.

Someone here in town who fixes wrecked volvos said it sounds to him like either the fuel pump or an ignition problem, possibly the flywheel sensor. He was leaning more toward the ignition problem though. Any suggestions?

As far as my A/C goes, it was not working, compressor not turning. I bought a can of R134 and put it in, and suddenly the compressor woke up! However it would only click on for about 2 seconds and then click off, then back on again in another 2-3 seconds over and over. Does this mean I need more refrigerant?
And how long should it take to empty a 14 ounce can into the system? The can got very cold, but I was emptying it for about 5 minutes and nothing much seemed to be happening. When I pulled it off, it still seemed very heavy, like there was a lot left in it.

Thank you for any suggestions/ help!

kevin
