Bad halfshaft 850 1996

I have a bad CV joint, but boots are intact. Since I'm doing this in my garage, I don't want to pull the halfshaft to diagnose which side is bad, and then reasseble while I order the new parts. ON THE CAR, is there a way I can tell which side is bad (most likely an inner since I get shudder on acceleration). Thanks
